When mulching new flowerbeds, it is best to establish, at a minimum, a 4 inch mulch base to aid in weed control and to retain moisture in the flowerbeds. If your flowerbeds already have a mulch base, we recommend no more than 3 additional inches of new mulch. Too much mulch can be counterproductive.

As our mulches are a product of nature, they are subject to natural variations in color, particle size, texture and consistency. Our mulch products are priced by the cubic yard with a 10 cubic yard minimum order. Volume discounts apply for larger orders.

Aged Hardwood Mulch - Aged hardwood mulch is made from the bark of hardwood trees (primarily Oak, Hickory and Poplar), aged for at least 1 year, shredded twice and screened to give the mulch the right texture. Coarse particulate size range from 5/8 to 1 ½ square inches. This all natural mulch has the nice dark brown, almost black color that most people find appealing. Hardwood mulch is the fastest composting of all our mulches as it enriches the soil but it does hold its dark color longer than other mulches. Hardwood mulch is used to dress up planting beds and around trees and is ideal for natural and sloped areas. It gives a natural ground look with a finished touch. It regulates the temperature and moisture of the soil, which protects the root systems of the plants, cuts down on weeds, and adds organic material to the soil mix as it decomposes. Healthy for your plants and soil!

Mulches Fresh Red Hardwood Mulch - Fresh hardwood mulch is made from the bark of Oak hardwood trees, shredded twice to give the mulch its texture. It is a lightweight, long-lasting, natural deep reddish-brown hardwood mulch. This coarsely shredded bark mulch acts as a knitting mulch, great for natural areas and will reduce erosion in steep or sloped beds. It is a high quality mulch which enhances any landscape design with its long lasting appearance and beauty. It is the choice of professionals doing high end landscapes requiring the finest ground cover available. Fresh hardwood mulch has a tendency to break down quicker than other products and will eventually darken as it ages. It regulates the temperature and moisture of the soil, which protects the root systems of the plants, cuts down on weeds, and adds organic material to the soil mix as it decomposes. It is healthy for your plants and soil.

Mulches Aged Pine Mulch - Aged pine mulch is made from pine tree bark. This decorative, finely shredded dark brown mulch is very easy to spread and provides a pleasant appearance. Coarse particulate size range from 5/8 to 1 ½ square inches. Aged pine mulch is ideal for perennials because it decomposes fast enough to gradually leave room for the plants, which themselves will eventually become the ground cover. It is great for annuals because once removed at the end of the season, you can mix the shredded pine bark mulch with the soil, becoming a compost and conditioning it for the following spring. Pine mulch regulates the temperature and moisture of the soil which protects the root systems of the plants, cuts down on weeds, and adds organic material to the soil mix as it decomposes. Works well on sloped areas and is healthy for your plants and soil.

Pine Bark Mini-Nuggets - Mini-Nuggets are pieces of pine bark, approximately 1 - square inches, manufactured from the large, coarse barks of many old-growth species of pine trees. These smaller decorative reddish-brown pieces are great as a ground cover. While giving a nice rustic look to your landscaping, they are the most durable of all our mulches, as they decompose slowly because of their size. Pine Bark Mini-Nuggets provide protection against the shock or rainfall, the germination of weeds and they also help regulate soil temperature. As a dense top mulching product, Mini-Nuggets retain moisture, help control weed growth and soil temperature, promotes plant growth, and are not a projectile threat to glass windows. Not recommended for steep or sloped areas.

MulchesPine Bark Fines - The reddish-brown pieces are little chips range in size from fine to 5/8 square inches. Works great as a soil conditioner as it decomposes more rapidly than coarse pine bark. Fines limit weed resistance and makes weeding easier, retains moisture and regulates soil temperature. Designed primarily for decorative purposes, pine bark fines are highly recommended for raised beds, potted plants, and as accents in existing landscapes. Should not be used on slopes with high rain runoff potential.

Top Dressing - All lawns become compacted over time. This compaction reduces water penetration and restricts healthy grass growth.  Top dressing of lawns is beneficial as it encourages new turf root growth, levels out existing low areas while adding micronutrients which increase biological activity in the soil. We'll apply approximately 1/2 - 5/8 inch of compost material, ensuring that existing turf is not completely covered. You can top dress your lawn twice a year (Spring and Fall) without causing serious short term problems. Be aware that top dressing your lawn in the Spring potentially exposes a bare growth medium to noxious weed seeds, even more so if you also aerate your lawn which exposes dormant weed seeds. You will get plenty of benefits and fewer problems with a once annual top dressing and aeration in the fall.
